On show from May to September 2013

15th anniversary exhibition at Kunsthalle Leoben

The 15th large-scale exhibition of cultural history at Kunsthalle Leoben was dedicated to a unique subject: the cult of skulls. Entitled Faszination Schädel, the exhibition presented 300 skull finds and head specimens, reflecting the particular significance of heads and skulls in the cultural history of mankind.

Unique exhibits

From millennia-old skull shells to ornate head trophies and skull relics revered as objects of worship – whether as a reminder of transience, fads or a phenomenon that transcends time and can look back on a long cultural history: skulls exert a fascinating appeal. The exhibits were drawn from renowned collections in Europe and overseas. Some objects were displayed in public for the first time.
